Oldengine.org was started in June of 1997 as a logical outgrowth of the OLD_ENGINE FidoNet echomail conference, carried on many Bulletin Board Systems (BBS') world-wide. The OLD_ENGINE echo was started by Elvis Hargrove about a year earlier. The echo (shared, topical message area) is for the discussion of older engines, including, but not limited to, aircraft, automobile, stationary, and steam engines. Some discussion of newer engines is allowed, but discussions of politics are discouraged. Topics will often drift to firearms, as many of the participants are involved in the shooting sports. Aviation is also discussed to a smaller degree, particularly aircraft power plants.

Jim Dunmyer, an active participant from the start, is also an Internet Service Provider, or ISP. As such, he has a Web Server at his disposal. Jim supplemented discussions of his antique sawmill with some pictures taken with an Epson Photo PC camera and placed on the server for others to share. After some thought, Jim decided that perhaps others would like to share pictures of THEIR "toys", er 'stuff', so registered oldengine.org and set up the virtual domain on his server.

Getting YOUR web site on to Oldengine.org

All lovers of old iron are invited to post their pictures and stories for others to look at, drool over, and discuss. If you would like to participate, please send an Email to jdunmyer@toltbbs.com for instructions/help/encouragement. Remember that we're not necessarily looking for showpieces (although they're welcome!), but examples and discussion of stuff that interests YOU.
