In this photo, the tree has been felled, and is being bucked for the sawmill. Bucking a log was cutting it to a predetermined length. The engine skid was lifted on top of the log (this is the reason why the water hopper is slanted on logsaws) and lashed down using the loghook and chains. The engine was started, and the clutch engaged, allowing the saw to cut the log.
