The Tod engine house, demolished February, 1997. A planned home for the Tod
engine, it once housed a similar William Tod blowing engine. Youngstown
mayor Patrick J. Ungaro ordered this building demolished after rejecting a
proposal that would have utilized this structure and Tod engine as the
nucleus of an industrial museum. The City was asked only for the donation of
the building and 4 acres of land. The JBFPA was prepared to construct the
museum at this site without using any funding from the City. Apparently this
was too much to ask from the City of Youngstown, a metropolitan area that
owes its very existence to the steel industry.
