Andy Gortsema's Collection

The Lewis-Clark Antique Power Club is proud to claim Andy Gortsema as one of its members. Andy owns one of the best engine collections in the region. By and large, Andy didn't accumulate the commonplace. Many of his engines are out of the ordinary, even rare. Every one of them is restored to perfection. His son, Marvin, a professional painter, lives next door so you can be assured the finish is the best, bar none.

Andy Gortsema threw open his doors for an open house in the summer of 2000. Andy and his son, Marvin, put on a mighty impressive two man show! Here, you'll see only a sampling of their collections. They probably left more engines in the sheds than they displayed outdoors.

In the foreground is Andy's beautiful screen-cooled IHC Famous. In the background, Orrin snaps close-up pictures. Click here to see larger image 81k (Use your browser's "back" feature to return to this page.)

This beautiful Ellis is typical of the rarity and beauty of Andy's engines. The Ellis will run in either direction. Ahead of its time, it has fuel injection.

A Challenge heads up this row of engines. Immediately behind stands a Gade, followed by a Termat and Monahan.

A photograph cannot do justice to the quality of the restoration of this opposed two-cylinder New Way. The cylinder shrouds gleam in the sunshine.

Behind the New Way you can see a hopper cooled IHC Famous and a screen cooled Famous.

Andy's "Rube Goldberg" can smasher is the smash hit every year at the Inland Empire Steam and Gas Buffs show held in conjunction with the fair at Spokane, Washington.

Here, Andy keeps watch on his unique work of art while members Bill Stone and Dale Petty (known far and wide for his immaculate working scale model engines) look on.

A radiator mounted in the flywheel cools this unique engine.

This rig is not typical of Andy's engines. You don't find many chips or rust on many of them. This one is the exception.
