Being a collector of Root equipment, I would of course like to have at least one of each and every piece of equipment that they ever made. However, when one realistically looks at collecting, you realize that the best you can do is a collection of a few pieces of equipment that is representative of the company. My plans at present are to donate my collection of Root equipment and literature to the Baxter Springs Heritage Museum upon my death (or perhaps earlier). This will be my contribution to the conservation of the history of Root Manufacturing Company.
Some of the items that I would like most to find are good, readable newspaper and magazine articles concerning Root. Perhaps they would even explain the sudden disappearance of the company. In the literature section of this web site you can read (with difficulty) a newspaper article from 1949 and a magazine article from 1975-1976. This is all the history of the company that I have been able to find. Any and all literature that I do not have are among my wanted items.
Other items that I would like to add to my collection are some of the early kitchen gadgets that Root made after the end of World War II. These include vegetable slicers, corn stick pans and bacon and egg grills.
Since retirement, I have to work with a limited budget. All items that I add to my collection are done so only if I can afford them. Of course, I gladly accept donations to my collection. Below are some pictures of other items that I would like to have in my collection.
