My 1971 Custom 10XL was bought new by Robert Melicher in Aurora, Illinois on November 30, 1971. The tractor was bought with a 38 inch mowing deck, snow blower, wheel weights and chains. He used it to mow approximately 10,000 square feet of lawn and blow snow from a 24’x130’ driveway. In 2002 he traded it in on a new John Deere. Mr. Melicher was 81 at the time. I have all the original equipment, the original manuals and the original sales receipt. The tractor has its original tires, original seat and the paint is original. I considered a restoration as it would be easily done, but decided to leave the tractor in its original condition. I bought the tractor from a John Deere Collector that got it in a package deal with several older John Deere’s he bought from the dealer. I purchased the tractor in July 2002 in Downers Grove, Illinois.
