This is a JOHN DEERE 3 H.P. TYPE "E" engine.

Serial Number 291362.

The exhaust pipe is chrome plated along with the pulley for the belt.
I did the lettering on governor box and touched up all the paint.
This has been in our family for about 20 years. My Dad bought it and
had it restored so my brother and he would have something to do
together. Neither of them took a liking to it so it sat in my brothers garage
for about 10 years. I wondered what happened to it one day and they said it
was still in my brothers garage, I could have it if I wanted it. I told them I had
room in my garage and I'll take and use it. So he took a day and hauled all
the junk off of it and hauled it over to our house. I put fresh gas in it, took off
the gas line to get the check valve unstuck. (I remember my Dad doing that
when I was a kid.) I cranked on it until it was getting gas, let off the ignitor
trip arm and BANG. I never have to worry about this engine starting.

In 2003 the engine wouldn't start because the oil in the crankcase had leaked into the fuel tank. There were two small rust holes in the steel plate that seperates the crankcase and fuel tank. I welded up the rusted holes, cut new gaskets, and put it all back together. I coated all the gasket surfaces with some permatex just to make sure it doesn't leak. I put it all back together on Oct. 30, 2004 and gave it a test run on Nov. 7, 2004. There weren't any leaks. Below are a few pictures showing the engine tore apart and the new gaskets.
