This is a John Deere Model GP serial number 217177 manufactured in 1930. I purchased it on September 18, 2004. Below are a few pictures I took of the previous owner and the tractor just after we loaded it on my trailer.

The previous owner said there was a whining gear noise coming from the governor area. He said the oil line probably had a plugged nozzle not allowing oil to be squirted into the governor housing. Below shows the engine with the governor housing removed and crankcase opened up.

Below shows the gear on the end of the fan shaft.

Below shows the inside of the governor housing with the flyweights removed.

Below shows the governor weights and pins that hold them to the gear. The pins were badly worn. The last picture shows the new pins I made to replace the worn ones.

The radiator started leaking so I put in some radiator stop leak stuff and the problem has gone away so far. Also had a problem with the engine not getting enough fuel. I cleaned out the opening from the fuel tank to the sediment bowl and a big fuzzy chunk came out. It runs great now. Here are some pictures I took of the tractor out in our field on October 9, 2004.
