| Below is a series of pictures I took showing
the process Rob Skinner has devised for loading and unloading his large,
heavy engines. This particular engine is a 1908 8 HP Goold,
Shapley & Muir single cylinder engine. It weighs 2,750 pounds
as shown.
The engines are transported on a dual axle trailer fitted with an electric winch and heavy duty ramps. As can be seen, temporary axles and cast iron wheels are used and a heavy duty mechanical "toe" jack does the actual lifting. The winch is a "power in, power out" type so the load is controlled going down the ramps. |
