Heavy Engine Unloading

Below is a series of pictures I took showing the process Rob Skinner has devised for loading and unloading his large, heavy engines.  This particular engine is a 1908  8 HP Goold, Shapley & Muir single cylinder engine.  It weighs 2,750 pounds as shown.

The engines are transported on a dual axle trailer fitted with an electric winch and heavy duty ramps.  As can be seen, temporary axles and cast iron wheels are used and a heavy duty mechanical "toe" jack does the actual lifting.  The winch is a "power in, power out" type so the load is controlled going down the ramps.

These pictures will double in size if you click on them.
