| Below are a few pictures of an early Schramm air compressor that is being restored by a friend of mine. The manufacturer took two engines from an outside supplier and mounted them side by side on a common cast iron base. One of the two engines was converted to an air compressor and the other engine supplied the power for the machine. This unit is fitted with a crankshaft common to both connecting rods with the throws 180 degrees from each other. The cart shown in these pictures is not original but is similar to illustrations I have seen. There is also a Western Electric generator mounted on this cart to demonstrate another use for early engines. |
