| On March 4, 2006 Bob Helm started and ran his 3 cylinder 75 HP. Atlas Imperial diesel engine for its first semi-public showing. He has been doing a mechanical restoration for the past two years. I don't know too many of the details but I believe it weighs around 11,000 pounds. It was manufactured as a marine engine and has a forward/reverse gear attached. It is started by injecting compressed air at the appropriate time into each of the cylinders. Below are 9 pictures in no particular order I took during this momentous event. The first one shows Bob in his red shirt explaining one of the finer points of the engine. |
