Leaking Cylinder Sleeve Seal

After the Crossley "J " was painted it decided to have a major seal leak at its first rally and did not fire a shot

The sleeve was stuck firm, I made a ring of 12mm steel plate with 3 bolts screwing down onto the sleeve and 2 pulling bolts pushing against the cylinder. I had to drill slight indentations into the sleeve to prevent the ring sliding off.

Sleeve removed revealed no seal left, the engine guarantee did not last 92 years.

The seal faces were cleaned and new sealing material added, silastic applied to the area before reassembly.
