This is an "elephant foot" Barco Tamper. These are pretty hard
to find since they're quite dangerous to use; this particular one is from
Canada. It's a gasoline engine, and
when the piston fires, it throws the whole thing up into the air. I have
a 6 second .avi format digital movie of the tamper running... click here

After I got home, I discovered that I accidentally shot the movie with the camera turned sideways- you have NO
IDEA what I went through to reorient it for the movie above!! :-)
