This is Ed J.'s 1930s vintage Taylor Vacuum Engine setup. It's a 2HP
Type C. It was fully
functional, and he could pull 25" of mercury vacuum without even loading
the engine (it was still hitting and missing)... that's twice what's needed to
run a milking machine. On the left is the vacuum tank, and he had it
hooked up to a milk machine out of the picture to the left. We spent a
good 1/2 hour talking about this engine, and he was kind enough to take his
vacuum valves apart so I could get good close up pictures and take
measurements as my engine is missing these parts (I'll put them up on my
Taylor web site soon). This type of engine, despite being a 4-cycle,
needs oil mixed with the gas to run properly because the oiler only covers the
vacuum half of the piston, not the power half.
This whole rig is for
sale. Let me know if you're interested and I can put you in touch with
Ed.
