Yesterdays Advertisements.

I was recently fortunate
enough to be given an opportunity to spend some time in the archives of
"Farmers Weekly" which is South Africas oldest "English Language"
farming magazine. My thanks to Farmers Weekly and to their
archive manager, Auriel for all the help. Here are some of the
adverts I scanned at that time. These mostly date from 1912 and 1913.
Surprisingly most of the products on offer originate from the
U.S.A. Bear in mind that, at this time the 2nd Anglo/Boer War had only
ended 10 years earlier and we were all part of the British Empire.
Maybe there was still a lot of resentment to the Brits and farmers
(boers) preferred to buy elsewhere! Where possible I've added links to details in the ads. I've tried to reach a happy medium between download speed and detail but with a preference for detail. Those (like me) who do not have "Broadband" yet will have to be a bit patient as some of the bigger pics load. |
