Our house was built in the early 1800s, from locally made bricks with a slate roof. My father bought it in 1962 and did a lot of renovations. We bought it in 1995, following his death, and the work we did was more cosmetic than structural. However, there were some problems which needed attention and we weren't convinced by the builder who told us that if the house had been standing for 200 years, it would probably be around in another 200! So we called on the services of a long-established local builder, who did an excellent job, solving all the structural problems and making the house look much better at the same time!
