Finished!! The beam is in place across the centre of the room (it's small, but it is for strength rather than a major structural installation, and the joists have been sanded and left completely natural. The spaces between the joists were fitted with plaster board, plastered and painted. The panelling was put back onto the chimney breast and and architrave fitted at the top of the panelling to fill the gap which was created when the thickness of reeds was removed, and the whole ceiling lifted a couple of inches by the girder.
