One of the three major problems was a crack in the brickwork from ground level to the roof. The lintel above the dining room window (seen here) had sagged in the centre and the crack was visible from both inside and out.
We expected this to be the most serious problem, requiring underpinning of the foundations, but the builder told us that a house of this age wouldn't have any significant foundations anyway! His repair would consist of removing several courses of bricks in the problem area and setting
Helibars into the mortar. Here, the first brick has been removed and temporary support put in.
