Stepping up to a direct-drive machine, the 0E had the motor built into the headstock of the machine, the lathe spindle forming the armature shaft, with the stator housed in the headstock casing. What the maintenance problems of such arrangements were are not known, although a range of four forward and four reverse speeds were offered.
Capacity is the same as the No. 0E: 4" centre height and 1/2" through the headstock and bar feed. The attraction of this machine over the No. 0 was the independence of positioning within a workshop, away from line shafting.
