Trailer Building

The start of mounting the beams, early Saturday morning with the sun rather low. The painted beam is waiting
for the second
rubber sealing strip to be cut and put in place at the back of the trailer. The first strip is already
in place, the clearance hole for the front horizontal
bolt has yet to be drilled, and is waiting for the beam to
be assembled up and clamped in place. One of the new rope hooks shows up well here, old one underneath.
Shot of the chequer plate with pattern ground off to give a flat surface for the beam and sealing strip.
Took half an hour to clean off each side.
Note the Ash tree leaves, already starting to fall....
Beam in place for a trial assembly. It has to be bolted down through the chassis before the holes through the end
flanges can be drilled in situ.
We couldn't get the exact colour match for the powder, but it isn't too bad in normal light!
Beam in place and bolted both ways. The sealing strip can just be seen between the beam and the ali
decking. The end result was extremely rigid,
thanks in part to the late decision to fit the flanges at
each end to allow a bolt through the front and rear diagonals. All nuts are Nylocs.
Inside view of the same joint, with a slightly clearer view of the rubber sealing strip.
Shot of the Superride Beam mounting flange, showing the method of fixing the beam to the chassis frame.
The hydraulic jack was only holding the beam up
to allow the bolts to be fitted, it wasn't holding the full trailer weight!
Flange thickness was about 4mm, bolts are M12 Stainless, washers are 2mm thick. Frame is
5mm wall box section.
Front shot of the finished trailer, having also had its brakes and bearings serviced ready for the trip.
The hydraulic crane is looking over the tailgate at the back.
