Lister 5/1 Diesel

Diesel Engine Patents

Hugo Junkers Patent No 159145 of 1920

The object is to simplify the construction of a gear of the kind used for reversible internal combustion engines by reducing the number of parts required by arranging some of the parts in such a manner that they are common to both forward and reverse running.

For this purpose for forward and reverse running each cam is provided with a separate connecting rod and a separate link, but the rest of the gear is so arranged that only a single driving crank or eccentric is required, the links having a common pivot carried by a common operating lever.

The two connecting rods are of unequal length, and are connected to the links at points such that on movement of the operating lever to the forward running position the proper cam is caused to operate the fuel valve, while on moving the to the reverse position, the reverse cam only is brought into position to operate the valve.

The single crank or eccentric required in this arrangement is, according to the inventor, far more easy to construct than the double crank or double eccentric hitherto in use.
