The object of the invention as described in this patent is to prevent premature ignition in Diesel and other high-compression engines.
For this purpose a charge of liquid fuel is drawn into the cylinder by the suction effect of a small body of highly compressed air which is prevented from coming into contact with the fuel until the time of ignition. The fuel is admitted to a chamber which surrounds a small cylinder provided with a suitably operated piston or plunger.
At the termination of the compression stroke the air in the cylinder is highly compressed and is expelled into the combustion chamber by the downward movement of the piston or plunger, the escape of air through the nozzle drawing in a charge of fuel from the fuel chamber.
