Diesel Engine Patents

B E D Kilburn (Gebrüer; Sulzer) Patent No 29661 of 1910

According to this invention, in engines of the Diesel or slow-combustion type, the exhaust gases from the auxiliary engine are employed to heat and scavenge the cylinders of the driving engine for starting purposes.

In this way the effects of the cooling of the walls of the working cylinders caused by the expansion of the compressed air are counteracted and any cooled starting air remaining the working cylinder is expelled.
