This invention comprises improved valve-actuating mechanism for reversible internal combustion engines working on the four-stroke cycle.

According to the invention the gear wheels in the valve shafts are each adapted to be automatically rotated independently thereof through a predetermined angle for each wheel, and are formed so as to engage with positive clutch members, fixed directly to these shafts, after they have rotated through such an angle.
