Lister 5/1 Diesel

Diesel Engine Patents

L G Sabathé - Patent No 2365 of 1906

According to this invention, in a two-stroke cycle engine the residual products of combustion are compressed during the in-stroke, and during compression a gaseous liquid or solid combustible is injected. At the commencement of the out-stroke a supporter of combustion is injected, and combustion takes place while it is being admitted.

The engine is said to be suitable for submarine boats. When the boat is on the surface the pump is employed to compress air into reservoirs to support combustion in the cylinder; but when the boat is submerged combustion is supported by Oxygen, and a pump is employed to withdraw the products of combustion from a tank, wherein they are cooled and purified, and to expel them overboard.
