Lister 5/1 Diesel

Bolinder Semi-Diesel Hot Bulb Engines

Twin Cylinder marine/industrial engine

This marine engine was removed from a fishing boat and stored by the owner outside his home in South-Eastern Spain. Due to health problems he has had to give up his interest in the engine, and we were very fortunate to be offered the unit for our collection. We have agreed to keep the engine indefinitely, and restore it to running order if possible. All colour pictures are by the present owner's family.

Flywheel end view, showing the chunky flywheel, the recessed starting pin (I think) in the flywheel face,
the hot bulb shield on top of the cylinder head and the twin water pumps, one sticking out each side.

Side view, showing the domed governor and fuel pump housing, the gearbox and control lever and the
passages cast in the cylinder block for air passing up the side of the pistons into the cylinder.

Other side, showing the cylinder and bearing lubricator plus its pipes, governor housing again, the
blanked-off exhaust ports and the cover over the hot bulbs where the blowlamp is presumably inserted before starting.

A picture from an advertisement for Bolinders showing a similar engine, but there
are detail differences, and the 50hp rating in the advert looks a bit ambitious.
