Bentall Medium XCP Grinding Mill

Bentall XCP Small Mill

A typical Bentall corn grinding mill. Ilustration taken from a Bentalls sales capalogue of 1935. The drive pulley is located inside the frame, and should be compared with the Bamford mill. The riddle mechanism ensured that the feed of grain from the hopper was not stopped by blockages, and in the XRSX mill, the additional rollers for use as a rolling mill are fitted. The smallest XCP mill would require about 2½hp to drive, the largest 9hp.

These mills are quite popular in the UK for preservationists, as they are reasonably easy to transport and handle by a single person. The larger Bentall XRSU mill which I have, weighs over half a ton, and is fitted with the larger rolling wheels as well as the grinding mechanism.
